FACTORS AFFECTING PROJECT PERFORMANCE (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA NEWSPRINT MANUFACTURING COMPANY (NNMC) AKWA IBOM STATE)

In Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State in particular most organizations require achievable goal setting to implement a fair and equitable project plan for exceptional performance. This study is to determine factors affecting their current project performance system as to provide the necessary tools to accurately measure job performance; using the Nigeria Newsprint Manufacturing Company (NNMC) Oku Iboku, Akwa Ibom state as a case study. In this research work, two hypotheses cast in their null form were tested with the aid of a four-point ranks scale and T-test. In tables 4.3 and 4.4 respectively, the results show that the two null hypotheses were rejected, since the calculated t-values were greater than the critical t-value of 2.0 at df of 23 an 0.05 level of significance The analysis of the study revealed that inadequate funding and lack of skilled manpower has significant effect in the non performance of the company. It is not out of place to observe that the inability to adequately fund an organization in Nigeria result in total collapse of the establishment and has also been the greatest barrier to the meaningful development of organizations. This result in project failure and such failure has some negative impact on the citizenry and in addition constitute serious wastages to human capital and material resources invested into such project. To achieve this total performance management strategy, plans should be made to ensure that adequate and steady funding are available before projects are undertaken. Similarly the company should increase manpower development and training in their budgetary planning to train employees as to update the employee’s skill and also setting foundation for recruiting individuals who possess the competencies for increase productivity.
