Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium (LLE) data of Butyric acid-Water-Toluene ternary system were determined experimentally at a temperature of 30ºC and 1 atmosphere. The complete phase diagram was obtained by determining the solubility curve and the tie-lines. The reliability of the experimental tie-line data was ascertained by using the Othmer and Tobias plot.Also, the UNIFAC model equations were used to estimate the activity coefficients of the system using the interaction parameters for groups; CH3, CH2, COOH, H2O, ACH, and ACCH3. A MATLAB Program has been written for this purpose. Distribution coefficients and separation factors were evaluated in the immiscibility region. The separation factors were found to vary between 4 and 530. This shows that the extraction of Butyric acid from dilute aqueous solution is feasible using Toluene as a suitable separating agent.
