Interest in risk analysis increased following passage of the “Superfund Act” in the U.S. Cleanup of CERCLA sites is detailed in the National Contingency Plan which requires ground water cleanup goals to meet chemical specific applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARS). Therefore, this paper attempts to generalize some experience with the hydroenvironmental aspects of risk analysis and calls for attention to some conceptual problems.
