THEME: Problem Based Learning: The Really Effective Education Pedagogy for Africa

Africa was absent from the industrial revolution and so today relies on theoretical text books written mainly by foreigners for its education system. As a result the African Science and Engineering education “cart” has been placed before the “horse” thus creating considerable “inertia” against technology acquisition for African. The solution today is “Problem Based Learning” (PBL) Pedagogy in Education delivery. The meaning of PBL was discussed and the Aalborg PBL model introduces. Discernment of PBL outcomes and consequent course assessment of students performance were critical parts of PBL model. The advantages of PBL over traditional education procedure were stated. The individual and institutional adjustments required for the take off of PBL were highlighted.
