Lassa fever or Lassa haemorraghic fever may be defined as an acute viral infection caused by Lassa Virus, transmitted to humans by the multimammate rat (Mastomys nataliensis) and characterized by multiple symptoms such as fever, malaise, headache, cough, back pain, deafness and bleeding from the body orifice such as nose, gums, eyes etc.
