ANALYSIS OF PROJECT SUCCESS FACTORS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT (A CASE STUDY OF JB PLC)

Many construction projects in Nigeria are usually characterized by low quality and shoddy deliverables. This study analyzes the success factors in the implementation of Total quality management on construction projects. Primary source of data was used for the study. The data was collected through a well structured and standardized questionnaires based on Likert’s five-point scale. The target group of the questionnaire was the management and staff of Julius Berger Plc. The methods of Multiple Regression and Correlation analysis were used in the data analysis and statistical test of hypothesis. The result of the analysis indicates that the critical success factors are significant in the following order( starting with  the most significant); Management commitment, training of employees, motivation of employees, customer satisfaction surveys and bench marking. The study recommends that management should recognize TQM philosophy as a proactive operations strategy necessary for achieving competitive competence in construction industries.
